It’s not often that you get to photograph an old college friend’s engagement. Recently, I had the privilege of capturing the love shared between Kelly and Chris during their Lakeshore State Park engagement session in downtown Milwaukee.
Kelly and Chris met at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. More specifically, they met in the Band of the Fighting Irish. Kelly played the piccolo and Chris played trumpet. Long practices and march-outs on game days translated into a supportive friendship and beautiful love story.
Chris planned an incredibly sweet – and clever! – series of events on the date of the proposal. Notre Dame’s campus is filled with romantic superstitions: kissing underneath a dormitory arch or walking around the lakes with a significant other ensures lasting love.
On a game day weekend, Kelly and Chris partook in all of those traditions. On their way around the lake, the famed bench where Rudy opened his acceptance letter became the destination of the proposal. As they sat admiring the beauty of the basilica and the Golden Dome, Chris got down on one knee and proposed. Chris also surprised Kelly by inviting some of her best friends and family members to join in the celebration. They capped-off the weekend with a post-proposal party.
Kelly and Chris will be having their wedding at the gorgeous Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus at Notre Dame. Their wedding party will be full of friends, including some Notre Dame band alumni. I look forward to going back to some of their favorite spots on campus to capture their love on their wedding day. Plus, we’ll capture some photos at St. Mary’s where Kelly went to school, as well as incorporate Kelly’s favorite flower – sunflowers – throughout the day. I had so much fun photographing their Lakeshore State Park engagement session and I couldn’t be more excited to capture their Notre Dame wedding this July!
