Kortney and Michael – Milwaukee Lakefront Engagement Session

When I first met Kortney, her foot was in a cast. I was amazed that she was wearing a heel on one foot and a boot on the other. We bonded over the fact that our wedding colors are the same and how we both love to be super organized. Right away I knew we’d get along.

Kortney told me that Michael and her have always done things backwards. She said most people go to school, get married and then have kids. They had kids almost ten years ago and now they’ve decided to make things official and get married. Michael proposed to her at home in their living room in front of their family. Their 9 year-old exclaimed “I thought you two were already married!”

As I walked up to our meet up location for their engagement session, Kortney and Michael’s five-year-old yelled out “HI!” and sprinted up to me and gave me the biggest hug. The hugs continued throughout the session and I loved it! Plus she was wearing a jacket that had a hood with a unicorn horn on it, so I basically hugged a unicorn. Be jealous.

Their family pushed through the cold October evening together. They were very prepared for the cold weather and I am definitely going to use some of their tips for future cold sessions! Kortney made sure everyone had hand warmers in their pockets and even brought along some hot chocolate to sip between spots.

I loved watching this family interact and had so much fun with them. I love working with families with young children because it is so fun to watch their personalities shine through the photos.

I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next June! From what they’ve planned so far, it’s definitely going to be a night to remember! I hope you enjoy a few of my favorites of Kortney and Michael!
