The Importance of Wedding Day Details

I am a detail-oriented person. For my own wedding day I spent hours making decisions about the tiniest details. Even after I made some decisions I would continue to think about it wondering if I made the right choice. Talk about #decisionfatigue!

I was very intentional with the details I wanted to include in my own day. And my photographer photographed all of them. I can look back on the photos now and remember each one of them and why I included them in one of the most important days of my life.

My favorite detail was my something borrowed – a family heirloom. It was my late grandmother’s rosary. That rosary has played a role in every single one of her grandchildren’s weddings. And because it was something borrowed, I didn’t get to keep that detail. The pictures are all I have. As I look through them, I can remember the special moment between my aunts and uncles as they helped place that rosary in my bouquet. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

This is why details matter. It’s not about the material items themselves – it’s about what they represent to you and your relationship.

Flowers die. Papers fade. Your rings will wear out over time – manifesting the trials and joys you’ve shared together. But what they represent lasts forever – don’t you want them captured to have in your wedding album?

I spend the first portion of every wedding day photographing details. It is so helpful when my couples have their details ready to go so I can waste no time finding the perfect spot to make them look their best in photos. I ask that all of my couples have their details together in one place when I arrive so nobody has to go hunt them down!

Here’s a list of some ideas of details I like to photograph to get you started:

  • Full Invitation Suite with envelopes (BONUS if the envelope is addressed with some pretty calligraphy)

  • All three of the rings

  • Jewelry

  • Hair Pieces

  • Shoes

  • Dress

  • Veil

  • Perfume

  • Bouquet

  • Any special items – something borrowed, something blue or any heirloom pieces

  • BONUS – extra stems from your florist that I can use to style with your details

  • BONUS – bring your own custom ring box!

I will take care of making sure your details are styled beautifully so you can remember them for years to come!

I would love to hear stories about what details are/will be important to you for your wedding day in the comments.
