6 Best Locations for Engagement Photos in Milwaukee

I often get asked where the best places are for engagement sessions in Milwaukee. These are a few of my favorite locations for engagement photos! Note that some of these locations do require photography permits – since permit rules and prices can change I encourage you to do some research before scheduling your session there!

Lakeshore State Park

This is my absolute favorite place for engagement photos in the area. You get the best of everything with a gorgeous view of the Milwaukee skyline, along with the grassy and rocky areas cushioned against the lake. This spot is especially gorgeous at sunrise where you don’t have to worry about crowds and you get to watch the sun rise over the lake!

Note there is an annual permit required to take photos in Lakeshore State Park.

Milwaukee Riverwalk

If an urban vibe is more your thing, then the Milwaukee Riverwalk is a great spot for engagement photos! I love the area by the Wells St. Bridge – you get a nice view of the buildings along with the river itself. Let Milwaukee’s various architectural styles shine as you stroll along the Riverwalk with your loved one.

Grant Park

Grant Park and Seven Bridges Trail is another popular spot for engagement photos. It looks amazing during every season too! During the fall, the trees turn a brilliant orange and yellow! In the spring and summer, there’s flowers throughout the park. I love the beach here because you can’t even tell you’re near the city – it’s in a perfect little cove that hides any trace of an urban setting. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a gorgeous sunrise or sunset when you go!

South Shore Park

South Shore Park is a gorgeous park and Marina nestled along the South Side of Milwaukee. I love this location in winter because the lake waters splash against the trees creating giant icicles on the trees! You can get plenty of variety in a session here all within a small area. During the summer this area can get pretty crowded so if a summer session is more your thing, consider a sunrise session to have the entire place to yourself!

Retzer Nature Center

Okay technically this one isn’t in Milwaukee – it’s in Waukesha – but it is worth the drive! Retzer Nature Center features various natural elements with gorgeous long grass fields and rows of tall pine trees. Once during a session, we saw some deer walk right past us! Talk about being one with nature. Take note – dogs are NOT allowed at Retzer Nature Center so plan to leave the furry friends at home.

Downtown Delafield

Once again, this one isn’t in Milwaukee. It’s about 30 minutes away but it’s so worth it! There’s tons of variety by the Fish Hatchery building with the river, ponds, a park, and the nearby downtown area. This is the perfect spot to get a ton of options all within a 5-10 minute walk. Bonus – this one is dog friendly!
